Needs Assessment

This is a highly interactive virtual workshop for experienced Learning and Development professionals. You will learn to plan and conduct a learning needs assessment by examining objectives, learners, and the organizational environment. Through case studies and practical exercises, you will identify business goals, performance outcomes, and learning objectives. The workshop emphasizes applying adult learning principles, exploring various information-gathering methods, and identifying training and non-training solutions to meet performance needs.

Objectives

In this workshop, you will:

  • Clarify the type of learning and development professional you aspire to be so you can support your participant’s learning needs.  
  • Use adult learning principles to critique a course for learner effectiveness.  
  • Identify the factors in an organization that impact learning design and implementation. 
  • Analyze the three areas to assess (objectives, learners and organization environment) and apply each to a case study. 
  • Discuss how to apply the five ways of gathering information.  
  • Use a model to plan the gathering of information for a needs assessment. 
  • Use a template to document learner characteristics and create a learner persona. 
  • Identify business goals, performance outcomes and learning objectives. 
  • Use a case study to write measurable learning objectives. 
  • Use a model to identify training and non-training approaches to address performance needs. 
  • Discuss different learning delivery approaches and when to use which.
