Overview

The Day 3 module equips participants with the tools to manage team members’ performance with purpose and clarity. The session begins by exploring the performance management process and its role in supporting both individual development and business results. Participants examine the difference between formal and informal approaches and learn how to create a culture of continuous feedback and improvement. Participants apply a practical framework for setting clear, measurable goals that align with team and organizational priorities, and practice preparing for mid-year and year-end performance reviews. Participants practice using feedback techniques from earlier sessions to foster productive conversations, even when the discussions are difficult.

Facilitated session (4 hours)

Unit  7 – Managing Performance: Process (1 hour)

  • Examine the key stages of the performance management process and its role in driving individual and organizational success. 
  • Differentiate between formal and informal performance management approaches to create a culture of continuous improvement. 
  • Apply performance management principles to set clear expectations, monitor progress, and provide effective feedback throughout the year. 


Unit 8 –  Managing Performance: Setting Goals (90 minutes)

  • Use a framework to set clear, measurable, and achievable performance objectives that align with team and organizational goals. 
  • Understand how performance objectives cascade from senior leadership to teams and individuals, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities. 
  • Evaluate common goal-setting mistakes and refine objectives to enhance clarity, accountability, and impact on business performance. 


Unit 9 – Managing Performance: Review Conversations (90 minutes)

  • Plan mid-year and year-end review conversations that foster team member growth and accountability. 
  • Practice delivering performance reviews using real-world scenarios, integrating feedback techniques from the previous units. 
  • Apply strategies to navigate challenging review discussions and set clear expectations for ongoing development. 

Virtual facilitated activities (90 minutes each)

  • Facilitated discussion on In your organization; include ties into compensation structure
  • Facilitated practice: Mid-year review (second scenario if needed)
